I Wanna Talk About Me(Me)

Okay, it's Friday, the funeral is over (Thank God, but it was very nice and just what a service should be), I now have Little Bit's cold (ARGH!!!) and it's time to lighten up a bit. Toby Keith, my favorite country singer, has a song called "I Wanna Talk About Me" about a guy who loves his woman but wishes she would hush up a while so he can get a word in edgewise.

Since TH doesn't blog, I'm going to talk about him - and me. I guess I'm not getting the point of Toby's song, but its TH's fault for not blogging himself. Oh, and I'm not tagging anyone to do this but there are several of you I'd love to do it (Cele, you just did one, so I know you probably aren't wanting to do another one yet). I stole this one from Dooce so I'm pretending Heather tagged me. As if.

Here goes:

What are your middle names?

My middle name is Renee. TH's middle name is Chris. Not Christopher, Chris. Little Bit's middle name was almost Chris until I came up with his middle name, Flynn, which is perfect for him (it means son of a Irishman). Big Bit and I outvoted TH on the middle name subject and Flynn he remains. Heh.

How long have you been together?

We met fifteen years ago this June. We'll have been married fifteen years this coming December. Lord, time does fly.

How long did you know each other before you started dating?

Let's see. I met him June 23. He called me in early July (he'd been out of town). One day I guess if you count face to face contact.

Who asked whom out?

Guys ask me out. That's how I roll, as they say. Not that I know how I roll anymore since it's been fifteen years since I've dated.

How old are each of you?

I'm 42, he's 45 (almost 46, it's only four months away).

Whose siblings do you see the most?

I have no siblings and TH's sister is apparently not speaking to us for the rest of her life. It's a long story. As far as "chosen" siblings, we keep in contact with a lot of my cousins, who I count as my siblings, and then of course there's my dear sister Ms. Hyde.

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?

When we got married, I'd not been divorced all that long from the EHFH and we've been dealing with custody stuff with Big Bit pretty much our whole marriage. That's been hard for both of us, and I appreciate TH's support on the matter. Most men would have thrown their hands up and said "I'm done", I think.

Did you go to the same school?

No, I graduated from University of Nevada. TH went to University of Idaho, but graduated from University of Phoenix. I was, however, in the infamous Taco Bell arena at the same time he was for a Bryan Adams concert in 1985 the week before I married the EHFH. I always ask him why he didn't come and grab me right then. It would have saved a LOT of problems.

Are you from the same home town?

No, though we are both native Idahoans. TH grew up in Fruitland, which is in western Idaho (and had a pink bowling alley at Gayway Junction with the Two Guys TV truck in the parking lot (I am NOT kidding). I grew up in Jackpot, Nevada, then around Twin Falls, Idaho.

Who is smarter?

TH is smarter, I think. I couldn't begin to figure out what the damn computer is doing and why it's doing it, nor can I play an XBox 360 game because there are too many buttons.

Who is the most sensitive?

Are you talking to me? What's your problem? Never mind.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?

It's fun to be home because there are so many choices in easy reach (unlike hell, I mean Utah). We met at a brewpub called TableRock, so we eat there pretty often (I know, I met him in a bar, insert your joke here). The Cottonwood Grille is another favorite. And for chain dining we love our Old Chicago World Beer Tour.

Where is the farthest you have traveled together?

London, in December of last year.

Who has the craziest exes?

Well, while TH did have an ex-girlfriend call from JAIL once while we were dating, the EHFH takes the cake, hands down. As Big Bit says, "he's psycho, Mom".

Who has the worst temper?

You ARE TALKING TO ME, AREN'T YOU? GRRR.

Who does the cooking?

We both do, though TH probably does more these days. That's because a lot of the family favorites (jalapeno burgers, tacos) he does better than I do. But we both like to cook and try out new things frequently. With Little Bit being picky, that does not happen as much as it used to.

Who is the neat-freak?

I wish one of us were, let's just put it that way.

Who is more stubborn?

I am Southern Idaho stubborn, he is Western Idaho stubborn. And together we gave birth to a monster. (I stole that line from Heather but it's sooooo true, Little Bit is worse than either of us).

Who hogs the bed?

We're actually pretty good about not doing this, though he would probably say I do.

Who wakes up earlier?

I do. Although both of us would sleep until at least 8 a.m. if we had the opportunity.

Where was your first date?

We went to see the movie "Speed" with Keanu Reeves. It remains the only Keanu Reeves movie I have ever liked.

Who is more jealous?

I don't think either one of us is. I guess we are just cool that way.

How long did it take to get serious?

For someone who informed him that if I ever got married (and divorced again) I was taking the kids, cats, house, truck, underwear and money with me, I got serious way faster than I thought I would, or really wanted to. Him too I think. We met in June and got married in December, so you figure it out.

Who eats more?

Him. Definitely. I can't compete.

Who does the laundry?

I wash it and then I glare until he folds at least some of it. Why is it so hard to just put the damn clothes up? If you take the iniative to wash them, you shouldn't also have to fold them.

Who's better with the computer?

See who's smarter, above.

Who drives when you are together?

TH, most of the time. I can but I don't like to because on car trips I'd rather read a book, sleep and eat sunflower seeds. I know, it's extremely unfair. But that's the way it is.

Have a great weekend everyone! We're buying our ski passes for Bogus Basin tomorrow and I'm very excited. Another thing we haven't gotten to do for three years checked off the list. We're also continuing to unpack. YUCK.

The top 50 meme

Because I steal good meme's from Sideon - I got this one. Enjoy at your own risk.

The catchup post is still pending. I found out yesterday Sibyl is resigning and I'm digesting what this means to my future. It may mean I leave Utah sooner than expected, oddly enough. The future may, indeed, be dark for staying.

1. What do you add to your coffee?
I only drink frou frou coffee. Sugarfree Hazelnut Lattes. I like The Husband’s made at home, but I love Starbucks.
2. What are you reading now?
Valerie Bertinelli’s book (I used to love her, but after reading this I’m not so sure), a biography of Martin Luther (a rebel in his own time!), and a biography of Natalie Wood. I’m in a weird place mentally I guess.
3. Do you own a gun?
The Husband does, but I finally pursuaded him to put everything where Little Bit doesn’t know it exists.
4. Are you registered to vote?
Not in Utah. But I will be by the Presidential Election. Not that it will make a whole lot of difference in this state, mind you.
5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments?
Hell yeah.
6. What do you think of hot dogs?
I will only eat them at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Or whatever they’re calling it these days.

11. What’s your favorite piece of jewelry?

12. Favorite hobby?
Reading. Reading. Reading. My grandmothers would be proud.
13. Do you work with people who idolize you?
Hell No. Nor should they.

Oddly, after Little Bit was diagnosed, I looked closely at my behavior as a child and yes, I think I do/did. But, being a girl, I also cared more about what people thought and that helped me a bit.
15. What’s one trait that you hate about yourself?
Temper.
16. What’s your middle name?
Renee
17. Name 3 thoughts at this exact moment.
I wish I had hit the lottery this weekend. I wish The Husband would win the Golden Mallet tournament (more on this later). I wish I hadn’t been so stupid as to buy tickets to Eddie Money and the Police on the same day so I had to give the Eddie Money tickets away. GRRRR.

Only if Johnny Depp was the captain.
32. What songs do you sing in the shower?
No singing.

And I can’t explain why, but TH wouldn’t let me name Little Bit this if he’d been a girl because he can’t stand his best friend in high school’s wife – who is named guess what?

Funnily enough, the oldest guy in my graduating class (WHO WAS 19 and a Senior – he could buy beer!) He did, we finally kind of dated once I got in Junior College. It was the funniest damn thing, because he was totally gorgeous and totally stupid. It lasted 5 minutes, but I have pictures to prove how hot he was.
44. What are the most fun things you ever did?
Hm. Disneyland with my kids and TH, and seeing Big Ben for the first time. Goose bumps.

Meme

I stole this meme, as they are called, from Sideon's blog. I understand you can tag people to do this as well, but I don't know if anyone else I know will. So if you want to, knock your socks off and let me know. Remember, this is MY memory of things, so if it's not strictly accurate (those of you that really know me), don't think I'm trying to mislead!

Here goes:

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Well, I was supposed to be a boy, according to legend, so when I (surprise!) wasn't, my dad had to come up with some names. According to my Mom, they were two sort of ex-girlfriends. Or something like that. According to my dad, they were just friends, neighbors or casual acquaintences. Whatever. My middle name, Renee, is also after "Don't Walk Away Renee" by the Left Bank (trivia - John Candy was their manager back in the late 60's). Although my Dad denies that now too. At any rate he used to sing it to me.

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? When I realized I was old enough to be the mother of a 16 year old. February 5, 2008. Just kidding. When the Packers lost to the Giants. Bawled like a baby.

3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Gads no.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? Peppered Turkey.

5. HAVE YOU ANY CHILDREN? Two blue eyed menaces.

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? You bet I would. I'm very loyal to my friends.

7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT? Unfortunately. Especially since I moved to Utah. It's ripe for the use of sarcasm.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? Darn rights! Nobody's cutting anything off this body!

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? Um, I'm afraid of heights. Next!

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? Cheerios. With a little sugar on them.

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? Pretty much, since I yell at the kids when they don't.

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG? If I'm not, I'm not telling.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM? Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Yum.

14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE? Hm. Eyes.

15. RED OR PINK? I like red, myself. My red 1998 Camaro was one of my favorite cars.

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? My temper to a certain extent. Perhaps it's the fact I want things to be "fair" and they aren't. An old boss of mine used to say "Okay, Don Quixote, come off your horse now".

18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO DO THIS MEME? It might be interesting!

19. WHAT COLOR PANTS AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING? I'll never tell.

20. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE? A taco and a glass of wine. Fine dining at its best.

21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? My IPod. Counting Crows, to be exact - "The Rain King".

22. IF YOU WHERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE? Blue

23. FAVORITE SMELLS? My 9 year old after a bath.

24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU SPOKE TO ON THE PHONE? My firstborn son, Big Bit.

25. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON WHO MADE YOU DO THIS STUPID MEME? Sure, I like myself, though I stole this from Sideon's blog.

26. WHICH SPORT DO YOU ENJOY WATCHING MOST? Pro Football, especially if the Packers are playing (and winning). NASCAR is a close 2nd. Yep, I seem to be something of a redneck, although a Jane Austen reading, art loving, fairly liberal Democrat redneck. Guess what, I'm a paradox.

27. HAIR COLOR? Auburn (not natural!) - currently in need of a pick me up.

28. EYE COLOR? Blue

29. DO YOU WEAR CONTACT LENSES? Most of the time.

30. FAVORITE FOOD? Italian, Chinese, Sushi, Steak, Seafood, Yum Yum Yum.

31. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? I pretty much won't watch any movie that doesn't have a happy ending anymore. Life's hard enough as it is.

32. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED? At a theatre? National Treasure (the new one). On TV? She's The One.

33. WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING? Um, I am wearing one but it's hard to describe.

34. SUMMER OR WINTER? Currently I have about 2 feet of snow in my front yard. I currently hate winter. And yes, I do ski.

35. HUGS OR KISSES? Both!

36. FAVORITE DESSERT? Cheesecake.

39. WHAT BOOK(S) ARE YOU READING NOW? Just finished three - Pattie Boyd's memoir (once married to George Harrison and Eric Clapton, respectively), a book about John Kennedy Jr. and his sister Caroline's relationship (fascinating) and Charles Schulz' biography. You may have noticed from this list I like biographies and I read fast, so it's hard to find new reading material. I tend to re-read books often.

40. WHAT’S ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? At work - the Green Bay Packers. Yes, I know, it's a real problem. AT home, don't need one.

41. WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON TV LAST NIGHT? The news - election results. Of course Mitt Romney won in Utah (surprise) for the Rs. I'm for Obama myself (shhh, don't tell my Mom, well, then again she probably wouldn't be surprised. Disappointed, yes, but not surprised. Oh heck, now she knows. Too late.) I actually donated to a politician (Obama) for the first time today. Ever. That's how important I think he is. And if you disagree, fine by me...just participate in the process please!

42. FAVORITE SOUND? Steve Perry (of Journey's) voice when he hits the high notes.

43. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES? Hm. Old Beatles and newer (70's & 80s) Rolling Stones. How's that for schizophrenic?

44. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME? Not sure mileage-wise but probably either Singapore or Oslo, Norway.

45. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT? I'm pretty good at being a smart-ass, but I don't consider that special. As mentioned before, I do read fast, I guess that's one.

46. WHERE WERE YOU BORN? I'd like to say somewhere exotic, but then again I do take pride in being a 4th generation Idahoan. Twin Falls, that is.
